How is Gaming Changing in Ireland?

Tue, Aug 29, 2017

Online gaming has become a truly democratic industry. This isn’t an industry suitable only for gamers sitting at home on their own spending hours tapping away on their laptop; this is an industry for young and old, male and female. With these changing demographics comes a wealth of other changes. After all, this is a landscape that has moved from individuals gaming against themselves or against the computer, to one where collaborative activities like eSports and, indeed, betting on eSports is a common practice. In these competitions, gamers can watch the top players compete in what has now been labelled a serious sport (some people are even calling for eSports to become a part of the Olympic Games).

Keep borders glowing for a golden end to Summer

Mon, Aug 28, 2017

Do you ever find your garden is lacking in late summer colour? Sometimes June and July can be the best months in the garden and by August and September, there isn’t much happening in the borders to bring colour and movement. Early flowering perennials have gone over and most flowering shrubs do their thing in spring and early summer, leaving them green and unexciting for the rest of the year.

People of the Tribes : Meet Aonghus O'Flaherty.

Mon, Aug 28, 2017

With a surname like "O'Flaherty" I can only be from one place - Connemara! So anyone who knows their Anglo Norman history of Galway will regard me as a trespasser! I'm ambidextrous, which is both unusual as well as useless! I lived and worked in Dublin for almost 10 years but I always itched to move back to Galway. I live in the city centre now. I had a "good job" in a "good company" in Dublin but it wasn't for me. I always wanted to start my own business and I felt Galway was the perfect place to do it. So I quit my job and moved back. Galway is probably the only place in the world where doing something that stupid is completely acceptable - that's something I love about it! Galway is unique. It has an energy that's difficult to describe. You can't manufacture or recreate it. And many places try. There's an authenticity to it. I think that's why we've been awarded the European Capital of Culture. Every busker, every building and every local business combine to give it its "Je ne sais quio". The streets are soaked in character.

People of the Tribes : Meet Alexandra.

Mon, Aug 28, 2017

I'm originally from Poland. I first came to Galway just to save money and go back after 1 year but I fell in love with the city. I'm now living in Galway nearly 11 years now with a beautiful 4-year-old boy. I worked in childcare for years and recently some friends of mine decided to set up a new business in the heart of Eyre Square. They asked me to join the team! A new adventure, it is very exciting and time to try something different. The owners Monika and Dan sent me to Kraków to study natural products which is great because I love everything to do with organic or natural food and cosmetics. Galway to me is a wonderful place. There is something here for everyone. Shop street on a good day or bad day is amazing because of all the music one can hear. Great restaurants and night life too!
