Kai Restaurant has been named on the shortlist for the most sustainable food service business. Restaurants from Denmark, Ireland, France and the United States are vying with 14 of the UK’s finest for the Food Made Good Business 2017 award which will be presented to the restaurant or food service business that has received the highest Food Made Good rating from the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA) in the last year, at the Food Made Good Awards, on 5th October.

At this stage of the week I hope the hangover has eased if you joined in the celebrations on Sunday – and Monday – and Tuesday….although I’m sure the sense of euphoria throughout the city and county will last a good while longer, and rightly so. As the champions prepare to return to their well-deserved welcome in the City of the Tribes, as well as towns and villages throughout Galway, the green-fingered might like to consider showing their appreciation in a horticultural way. After all, flags and banners in the county’s colours of maroon and white have fluttered from windows and decked our streets for weeks. Why not include our window boxes, hanging baskets, front gardens and even roundabouts – all areas where the hard working members of our Tidy Towns groups do so much to cheer up and beautify our streets for everyone’s benefit.

I'm Dave, I tell everybody that I'm from Galway. I lived in the Renmore area as a child, but as the son of Hotel Manager's the family ended up in Killarney. I returned to go to College and have found it hard to stay away ever since. Galway has a unique spirit, there's a feeling in the air that's hard to describe but when you come back after time away you know that you have come home, I couldn't live anywhere else. I'm obsessed with History and the relics of the past, evidence of Medieval Galway can be seen at every turn. I'm an Antique dealer and my wife Victoria is a Knitwear designer we have a Crafts and Collectables shop in Corbett Court.
