Flahavan’s is inviting families across Ireland to take the porridge pledge, making a positive change to their daily breakfast routines and incorporating healthy, wholesome, porridge oats into their diets to start each day right.

Porridge has emerged as one of the nation’s most popular breakfast options through lockdown. Research carried out by Bord Bia highlighted that families now have more time to enjoy meals together (41 per cent) and that 31 per cent are choosing familiar favourite foods more often as a result of the lockdown.

NUI Galway launches Ideas Academy Halloween camp

NUI Galway, in partnership with the HEA, recently launched the Ideas Academy Halloween camp. The academy is an online Halloween camp for second level students in transition year and senior cycle who want to create ideas that enhance the quality of life, and reimagine how ordinary problems related to Covid-19 can be solved in extraordinary ways.

The one-week free camp will focus on developing the entrepreneurial and innovation mindset of participants experientially using tools such as design thinking and the lean canvas together with getting first-hand experience of third level studies from different disciplines. The camp will be a positive environment for young entrepreneurs to develop, test, and pitch their ideas. The initiative is a cross campus partnership of LaunchPad, the student enterprise hub at NUI Galway, BioInnovate Ireland, the JE Cairnes School of Business and Economics, and the Discipline of Surgery.

GMIT to host online coding activities as part of DojoMór 2020

GMIT is among the institutes hosting hosting DojoMór2020, an exciting online coding event for people aged seven to 17, taking place on Saturday October 24. The event will see young people right across Ireland learn to create a simple game, build a website, and programme some electronics. This a free event; interested participants can register for one or more workshops at www.dojomor.ie.

DojoMór2020 will involve multiple local classroom workshops being streamed live to attendees from around the country from staff in colleges such as GMIT, CIT, IT Tralee, Waterford IT, Maynooth University, Dundalk IT, Letterkenny IT, and Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art Design and Technology, as well as from Offaly County Council. The event is funded by the Higher Education Authority (HEA).
