Porridge emerges as a favourite lockdown comfort food

Flahavan’s is inviting families across Ireland to take the porridge pledge, making a positive change to their daily breakfast routines and incorporating healthy, wholesome, porridge oats into their diets to start each day right.

Porridge has emerged as one of the nation’s most popular breakfast options through lockdown. Research carried out by Bord Bia highlighted that families now have more time to enjoy meals together (41 per cent ) and that 31 per cent are choosing familiar favourite foods more often as a result of the lockdown.

Porridge oats remain a key affordable and nutritious staple in cupboards all around Ireland, with a marked increase in sales of large bag formats (seven per cent ) as more and more people enjoy the goodness of porridge throughout the year as well as incorporating oats into their home-baking recipes.

Flahavan’s porridge pledge campaign, launched in celebration of National Porridge Week 2020, encourages people to re-assess the way they start each day and to choose a healthy nutritious breakfast choice. To help consumers get onboard, Flahavan’s has called in the help of some well-known faces and friends, to inspire consumers with their favourite oat-based recipes.

Karl Henry, fitness expert and TV personality, Derval O’Rourke, former Olympian, author, and coach, and Galway-based yoga teachers Yoga Mara have all shared their simple, wholesome recipes containing natural oats as their key ingredient, giving them the energy boost they need each morning.

Children’s feeding expert Louise Lennox encourages us to get the children onboard with tempting colourful fruity options, while TV chef Eunice Power inspires us with an indulgent organic porridge recipe with zesty lemon curd for those lazy weekend mornings.
