Galway United Supporters’ Trust will host a night with Irish football legend and former Galway United manager Paddy Mulligan at the Galway Rovers Clubhouse, Claddagh, on Friday April 26 (8pm). Mulligan played 50 times for the Republic of Ireland and also lined out for Shamrock Rovers, Chelsea, Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion. All are welcome - there is no admission charge.

Salthill Devon, Mervue United, Galway United Supporters Trust, and NUI Galway will be represented alongside Sligo Rovers, St John's Athletic, Ballinasloe Town, Longford Town, Athlone Town, Willow Park, Westport United, Castlebar Celtic, and Ballina Town.

Bronze for Craughwell vets

Craughwell AC celebrated a historic bronze medal in the national road relays in Raheny recently. The veteran men's team of Mark Davis, Gerry Ryan and Martin Corcoran won the Bronze in the M35 race in 20:00 exactly. The medal was a great achievement for the runners, whose average age is 47. Mark Davis ran the first leg with a stunning 4.53 mile split. Gerry Ryan took up the baton and duly ran the fastest two mile leg of the entire veterans’ event in 9:58, hauling the team up into third position. Martin Corcoran took the changeover with a decent, but not unassailable lead on the fourth-placed athletes, and found the reserves to hold off his challengers and win the bronze,surprised many by breaking the Dublin dominance in the event. Craughwell’s senior men, Jamie Fallon-Spellman, Conor Gillen, Neil Greaney and Jason Broderick finished in 14th place.

Keeper Collins the heroine as Greenfields secure Irish Trophy again

Greenfields Hockey Club has succeeded in winning the Irish Ladies’ Trophy for a second successive year after overcoming Ulster outfit Lisnagarvey on Sunday.

It took a penalty shoot-out to determine this year’s winners, and in a nail-biting final Greenfields’ keeper Sinead Collins stepped up to become the heroine and match winner, bringing the trophy back to Galway for the second year in a row.

Supporters’ bus to Thurles

The Galway Hurling Supporters’ Club and Bus Eireann will provide a bus to Thurles on Sunday for supporters wishing to travel to the Allianz Senior Hurling semi-finals with Dublin v Tipperary at 2pm followed by Galway v Kilkenny at 3.45pm.
