Gaeltacht groups reject alteration to County Galway Development Plan

A proposed alteration to the County Galway Development Plan, concerning the Gaeltacht, is meeting with stiff opposition from some Gaeltacht community groups, who have asked that it be withdrawn.

Last Monday was the deadline for submissions to Proposed Alteration 2(b), which deals mainly with land use in three Gaeltacht villages, An Spidéal, An Cheathrú Rua agus Claregalway. If adopted the Alteration 2(b) would replace the Gaeltacht Area Plan, which laid down strict language conditions for housing schemes in the South Conamara Gaeltacht.

Funding announced for Galway community and voluntary groups

A total of €115,053 in funding ha been allocated to some 130 Galway community and voluntary groups under the Department of Rural and Community Development’s Community Facilities Scheme.

Under the scheme €64,500 has been allocated to community groups in the county on a municipal district basis, while in excess of €50,000 has been allocated to groups and organisations in the city.
