Excitement mounts after winning Lotto ticket sold in Milltown

There was excitement in Milltown this week as it was revealed a shop in the north Galway village sold a mega Lotto jackpot winning ticket worth almost €4.5 million.

The €4.5 million winning Lotto ticket was purchased in Ryan's Daybreak and post office on Thursday October 25.

The National Lottery confirmed that the shop had sold the golden Quick Pick ticket with last Friday's winning numbers 14, 24, 30, 38, 40, 45, and bonus number 36.

This is the 11th Lotto jackpot win of 2018 and the second since the Lotto Plus game enhancements were introduced on September 1. The game changes have also seen the creation of two new Irish millionaires who landed the top Lotto Plus 1 prize of a cool €1 million.

The owners of the family owned shop and post office were stunned when they were informed they had sold a mega winning Lotto ticket.

One of the shop owners, and granddaughter of its founder, Clare O’Connor, said the entire family is overjoyed at the news of the massive win.

Ms O'Connor's grandfather started the shop which was then taken over by her parents, Joe and Anne, who are now semi-retired. The business, which also has a pub, is now run by Clare and her two brothers Tim and John.

And with Clare’s children now helping out at times, the business is now into its fourth generation of family.

“This is a small village eight miles from Tuam and we are the only shop," she said. "But there is a lot of passing traffic so it could be anyone. But we are really hoping it is someone local, that would be very special indeed.”

A National Lottery spokesperson appealed to Galway players to check their Lotto numbers to see if they are holders of this golden ticket.
