More than €4 million has been allocated for works on the N59 Galway to Clifden road, along with €4.5 million for surface works on the N84 Headford Road, as part of a €26,167 million Government investment in Galway’s national road network.

The €4.94 million for the N59 will fund works between Clifden and Oughterard, including between Maam Cross and Bunakill, will involve road widening at Letterfrack; pavement strengthening works on the Galway side of Oughterard, on the northern approach to Clifden, and on the Clifden side of Maam Cross; and also go towards progress on the Moycullen Bypass.

Galway City Volunteer recruitment fair

Members of the public interested in volunteering in their community are invited to the Galway City Volunteer Recruitment Fair in the Galway Bay Hotel on Sunday January 28 from 2pm to 5pm.

The fair, organised by Volunteer Galway, will feature more than 40 charities and community organisations from across the city. Last year more than 800 people attended the event, and Labour city councillor and event organiser Niall McNelis is hoping there will be a similarly strong attendance for the 20187 event.

The total number of estates taken in charge in 2017 is 11, with 11 also taken in charge in 2016. Estates taken in charge in 2017 were Cregg View, Oughterard; Riverview, Gort; Church View, Menlough; Wuthering Heights, Mountbellew; Abbey Trinity, Tuam; Woodfield, Tuam; Palace Fields, Tuam; Bothar an tSleibhe, Moycullen; Abhainn Rhuibhe, Oughterard; Cnoc na gCaor, Abbeyknockmoy; Droim na Cille, Loughrea.
