What the so called ‘empty frame’ may have looked like...
Thu, May 31, 2018
Last month Galway Diary explored the sham legend that grew around the so-called ‘Empty frame’ on the wall of the Lynch’s Chapel, or Lady’s chapel, in the historic St Nicholas’ Collegiate church. The late Canon George Quinn pronounced that this was the very frame in which the Bishop of Clonfert, Walter Lynch’s sacred icon of the Madonna and Child once hung, before he was forced to flee just before the arrival of Cromwell’s soldiers in April 1652.

Hi, my is David Walsh. I'm from Limerick originally and as much as I love my city, I have made friends here and settled in beautiful Galway two years ago. I have fond memories of Galway as a kid and knew in my heart I would live here someday. It's full of culture and art and it supports entertainers, one of the many reasons why I chose Galway. I have been practising magic since 1993 and my passion is stronger than ever for the craft that has given me so much, I'm now 38 and I'm still a student of magic. I perform on the street with a table but sometimes without to give me more freedom to approach people David Blaine style. The street is the purest arena to perform in, it's raw, challenging and very honest as your not hired to be there. You must showcase your skills and let them decide who to glorify. Tipping the hat or liking my facebook page, it's all accepted with a smile. I get on all well with the other buskers and feel since race week last year I have definitely made a name for myself on shop street. Magic is a performance art and it's something I'm passionate about and to have the opportunity to make someone's day for me that's a gift that simply has to be shared. Magic has huge popularity in the last few years from TV specials to Britain's Got Talent and behind. Magic is in everyone's hearts and I'm just pulling the strings sometimes. My legacy is simply that I strived to be the best magician I could and my audience enjoyed the experience. I will always be a street performer and I will have love for Galway City.

My garden design clients are often nervous about growing roses in their gardens as there’s a perception that they take a lot of maintenance and “you have to spray them a lot”. This is really not so. Certainly if you want a really, really low maintenance garden, there’s a host of other shrubs you can use to give you structure, colour and interest all year round. To get the best from roses, an occasional prune and feed does make a difference – although those are easier to do than you might think.

The year 1958 was the first time the Irish Army sent a number of personnel on a peace mission to work abroad. They were a team of observers who went to the Lebanon. The next group to go abroad were members of An Chéad Cath and they were stationed in the Congo from 1960 to 1963. From 1963 to 1974, our soldiers were stationed in Cyprus, and later a number were sent to the Sinai Desert for nine months. After the Dublin/Monaghan bombings, all Irish military personnel were withdrawn and brought home

Week V
Liam Mellows at 24 years of age, led about 200 volunteers out on Easter week in answer to Padraic Pearse’s call to arms. Despite his young age Mellows had won the trust and confidence of his band of men and women. The Galway Rebellion, however, was doomed once the Aud failed to land her cargo of rifles and ammunition off the Kerry coast.* Yet with what weapons they had they attacked RIC stations at Oranmore and Clarinbrdge, and for a time occupied Athenry. One RIC constable, Patrick Whelan, was shot dead at Carnmore.

There are three keys to a genuine weight loss (real fat loss) plan – diet, exercise, and metabolism correction. All three keys interconnect – one will not work without the other. Your metabolism is the most powerful of all the three keys – it is the ‘switch’ that controls everything else. In most people this switch is off.
Metabolism problems such as slow thyroid, type 2 diabetes, sluggish liver, hormone imbalances, PCOS, endometriosis, infertility, and digestive problems such as constipation, IBS, and diverticulitis will limit or stop your weight loss, no matter how much dieting or exercise you do. Work on fixing your metabolism problems for amazing results. Combine this with a reasonable diet and a reasonable amount of exercise and you will get the best, the fastest, and the easiest weight loss ever.
