Thu, Nov 01, 2018
Why do people have two ears? Basically, it is to widen the scope of your hearing so you can find out where sounds are coming from, and from what distance. In reality it is not your ears that do the listening, but your brain. And to interpret sounds correctly, the information it receives must be as accurate and as detailed as possible.

Games Reviews Thu, Nov 01, 2018
As with many sports games, their popularity will be everlasting as millions of sports fans gorge themselves on being able to play like their heroes. The problem with sports games is that there is very little opportunity to ever improve the product. Aside from controls and graphics, the game must mirror what real life is like, so if there is no change in the sport, then it is likely there is going to be no change in the game.

Hi, I'm Barry, a native of Co. Mayo originally studied Television Production in Dún Laoghaire and Theatre Performance in Galway. However, it was in the Tour Guiding course with Fáilte Ireland in Limerick in 2012, that I found the perfect way to combine my love of performance, storytelling and history. Walking tours around Galway City were I first foray into guiding, and later, the ol flair for performance and comedy came to the fore as a performer on the Galway Gravedigger Ghostbus Tour. Finally, I joined the team at Adventure Trails Ireland: What I love about tour guiding is connecting with amazing people from all around the world and being able to explore and share Galway's rich heritage through food, drink and storytelling. It's great to be able to offer something unique and off the beaten path. Adventuretrails.ie is a company that specialises in Irish food tours, whiskey tours and day tours in Dublin and Galway. Give me a call if you want to say hello or join me around the city- 00353 85 774 7005.

Fancy some flaming autumn colour in the garden? This is a good time to choose trees and shrubs for autumn leaf colour. The hot, sunny summer and mostly dry autumn have allowed deciduous plants to appear at their best this year, and you can view them in all their blazing glory till the leaves come down and they nod off to sleep for winter. Here are a few of my favourite picks for a bonfire blaze at this time of year, with something included for all garden sizes:
Liquidambar styraciflua – also known as the sweet gum tree, a group of these stopped me in my tracks recently on the NUIG campus. Even on a drizzly, grey day they seemed lit from within.

The Columban Hall is described as a bizarre high-Victorian building with a gabled facade of opus incertum with a small porch, polychrome arches to the windows, a star shaped west window, and a curious chunky top-knot. It was originally built as a Congregational Church, designed by Raffles Brown and completed in 1863. Our photograph (courtesy of the National Library) was taken just a few years later.

Augusta Lady Gregory, and her husband Sir William, were away in Italy in May 1888, when her former lover Wilfrid Scawen Blunt was imprisoned in Galway for participating in an anti-eviction rally at Woodford the previous October. I described last week, that within two days of her return to Galway she visited his empty cell, and remained sometime.*
At this period Augusta was still very much a Unionist, and the chatelaine of a large estate. Later that summer when Sir William was involved in a dispute with the tenant, Patrick Spelman, who occupied the Ballylee Castle holding (which would later become a holiday home for WB Yeats and his family), she acted as his secretary, and was closely involved in all aspects of the process.

My name is Bryna Milton, a 16-year-old student living in Galway. I live in Clarinbridge, the home of the oyster, and I absolutely love it. Clarinbridge has been my home for 13 years now and my heart swells with pride when I say I’m from there. It’s a 10-minute drive from Oranmore, where my school, Calasanctius College, is based. I’m in Transition Year now and couldn’t be happier. I’m here doing my work experience at the Galway Advertiser which I love. There’s always an interesting project for me to work on and everyone is lovely. I’m ecstatic for the year ahead because I get to take part in many activities that I am very privileged to do, like charity work and Chinese.
