ITAA issues advice for Irish tourists travelling to Catalonia

The Irish Travel Agents Association (ITAA) has issued advice to Irish holidaymakers travelling to Catalonia in Spain following the action taken by Spanish prime minister, Mariano Rajoy, to impose direct rule on Catalonia after the region officially declared independence from Spain last week.

The move by the Spanish Government to sack Catalonian leaders and impose direct rule has sparked fear that there will be civil unrest and violence across Spain in the coming days and weeks and Irish tourists have been warned that it could affect them. Prime Minister Rajoy has called for an election in the region on December 21.

Galway Grammar School, 1903

Galway Grammar School was a Protestant institution established under the Erasmus Smith Trust in 1669. It opened around 1675 and has been located at College Road since 1815. The 1950/51 school year was an eventful one when, in November of that year, a wing of the school was gutted by fire, happily, there was no danger of loss of life. Four months later a dormitory ceiling collapsed. The headmaster, George Coughlan, said that the collapse was caused by a 24 foot beam being charred through by a chimney fire. The beam brought down two other beams and half the ceiling. In many old buildings, beams went into chimney flues and successive chimney fires charred them until they came down. Neither incident occasioned an interruption in the school routine.

We will have a race and I will be on the third horse and when I will be passing you out, throw a sod of turf at me and I will be saved.” Next night when he was passing her out, she threw a sod of turf at him and he was saved. The reason the fairies beat him was because he had no water in the house. He kept enough water in the house after that.’
