People of The Tribes: Meet Paul
Fri, Apr 06, 2018
Hi, I'm Paul McGuigan. I'm originally from Cavan but have been living in Galway for the past 12 years. My family used to come here on holidays when I was small and I always felt this town had a dreamlike quality-there's magic in these streets. I originally came to Galway to study art and design in GMIT. Like the song, I lost my heart to a Galway girl and have been here ever since.

The best piece of advice when choosing your wedding veil may seem obvious but must be remembered – first choose your gown, then choose your accessories to complement it. Remember that it is the design of the headpiece and veil that transform a beautiful dress into a stunning bridal gown. All your accessories should most definitely not drown you, but complement and enhance your wedding dress and you as the bride.

The Franciscans first came to Galway in 1296 and founded the Abbey. In 1483, a school of advanced theology was instituted there. When the Cromwellians invaded the city, the friars were expelled. In 1657, the friary was destroyed and the church was turned into a courthouse — the present courthouse stands on the same site. In 1660, a new church was erected on the present site of the Abbey. There were 13 friars there in 1766, and eight years later a novitiate was opened here. The present friary was built or rebuilt in 1820, and the present church opened c1836. It was renovated in the 1970s and became the first Franciscan parish in 1971.

It can work, but you have to be careful, as you could end up drawing attention to the very feature you’re anxious to conceal.
