Club championship round-up

Thu, Jun 27, 2019

Group 1
Mountbellew/Moylough continue to show their credentials to Corofin’s throne with another impressive win. Defeating Caherlistrane 1-13 to 1-2 with the two Daly’s and Barry McHugh doing the damage before a late goal from Eoin Finnerty killed off any momentum Caherlistrane could have built after Shane Bohan’s 47th minute goal. This result leaves Caherlistrane bottom of the group and the only team in group 1 with zero points after Killanin and Monivea/Abbey both secured their first wins of the season. Killanin defeated An Ceathru Ruan 3-11 to 2-11 in an ultra competitive game thanks to goals from Johnny Heaney, Patrick Sweeney, and Brian Barrett. Monivea/Abbey defeated Moycullen in the early throw in in Tuam stadium on Saturday. Trailing by one heading into injury time they scored the last three points including one from Cillian McDaid to secure their first win and leave the group wide open with four of the six teams on two points.

Poor second half showing hands Rossies the Connacht title

Thu, Jun 20, 2019

A disastrous second half from Galway in line with a spirited Roscommon fightback sends Galway to the qualifiers once again. Five unanswered points at the end of the first half had Galway leading 0-10 to 0-5 at the break. Quite similar to Roscommon’s position half way through last year's final and just like last year the home side lost out to a hungrier dog on the day.

Joyce winning start continues

Thu, Jun 13, 2019

Padraic Joyce’s Galway U20 side followed up their comprehensive victory over Kildare with a closely fought 1-11 to 0-12 win over a very physically strong Cork side.

The game was nip and tuck throughout with Cork having the better of the opening exchanges. Cork seemed to adapt better to the tricky cross wind in Claughan which caught out players on numerous occasions. Joyce, however, will be very pleased with how his side dug in with sheer graft to get on top of their Munster opponents.
