Reigning champions Corofin will face Salthill/Knocknacarra and 2020 winners Maigh Cuilinn will play Tuam Stars in the last four of the senior football championship.

None of the four teams left has been overly impressive in the championship so far and this could be reflective of the gap between the top four or five sides to the rest or it may show just how negative and systematic football has become. In each of the four games last weekend the four winners did their damage in uninspiring, efficient spells and then consolidated their advantage with conservative, defensive football.

Knockout time in the hurling championships

The knockout stages of the Galway senior and intermediate hurling championship gets underway this weekend, with fifteen games of consequence to be played across six venues which will leave sixteen teams with no further fixtures to look forward to this year and one demoted to a lower grade.

Beagh have proudly held on to their senior status since winning their second intermediate title back in 2002, with Joe Gantley still proudly carrying the torch from that era. Whether they will be able to evade the trap door on this occasion will be tested by a solid Ahascragh-Fohenagh side on Saturday afternoon in Duggan Park.
