A new playground for children in Renmore has taken a step closer to reality, with funding for the project having reached €70,000, following an allocation of €38,000 in next year’s Galway City Council budget.
The allocation has been welcomed by Independent Galway City East councillor, Terry O’Flaherty, who has campaigned for this facility. An initial allocation of €20,000 was set aside for the playground. However, last year she encouraged City Hall to apply to the Department of Children Capital Grant Scheme for Play and Recreation, after which €12,000 was secured for Renmore Neighbourhood Park. Further representations saw €20,000 included in the 2018 budget, while at the discussion for next year’s council budget, another €18,000 was set aside, bringing the total to €70,000.

The air service at Connemara Airport has been extended until September 2021, while Aer Arann Islands has agreed to continue providing that air service until December 20 this year.
The extension of services was agreed recently between the Department of the Gaeltacht and Galway Aviation Services Limited (trading as Aer Arann Islands) in relation to the Aran Islands air service and Connemara Airport.

COPE Galway’s biggest – and longest – fundraising event of the year will see 32 people from Galway’s business community sleeping rough over 12 hours tomorrow night (Friday, December 7) to raise awareness about homelessness in Galway and help raise funds for COPE Galway’s Homeless Services.
COPE Galway’s most recent quarterly one day census (conducted on Nov 21/22) identified a total of 195 adults and 221 children as living in emergency accommodation provided directly by COPE Galway and in private emergency accommodation such as hotels and B&Bs.
