Pioneer smoke-ban pub fined for smoking ban offence

A city centre licensed premises, which was one of the first in Galway to implement the smoking ban before it had been made law, has been fined for allowing punters to smoke in an area specifically designated as non-smoking.

An Tobar and the Dew Drop Inn, which is now a combined premises run by DDI (Public House) ltd, was fined €500 and ordered to pay costs of €950 with two months to pay after the company was summoned to appear in court by Galway City Council.

The owner of a city centre adult store has been fined a total of €1,500 for having pornographic DVDs available for sale to the public which did not have a supply certificate or proper labelling.

Michael Bridgeman (47) with an address at Glenview, Ballyneety, Limerick, was summoned to appear at Galway District Court yesterday where he pleaded guilty to having video recordings at Underworld, 20 Upper Dominick Street, which did not comply with sections 5, 6, and 12 of the Video Recording Act 1989.

Man gets ten months for threat to neighbours and spitting at garda

A man who threatened to “sort out” his elderly neighbours following a noise complaint, and spat at a garda on another occasion after roaring abuse, was sentenced to a total of 10 months in jail at Galway District Court yesterday.

Donal Burke (41) with an address at 68 Gleann Rua, Lurgan Park, Renmore, pleaded guilty to a number of public order offences, obstruction of a garda, trespass, and failing to leave a building in a peaceable and orderly manner on various dates.
