Dance for mental health

Thu, May 28, 2009

Anyone who ever longed to relive their nights at the Ceili should keep the evening of Friday June 5 free. In aid of the Positive Mental Health Foundation, the Kilfenora Ceili Band will be play at the Menlo Park Hotel. All Proceeds go directly to the ‘Positive Mental Health Foundation’ which continues to bring a welcome message of mental/emotional support to second level schools in Galway city and county. On the service the chairperson of the foundation says, "Our volunteer facilitators engage the students in reflecting and exploring thoughts, feelings, ideas, moral loneliness, anxieties and aspirations. The small group enables students to take a little time to gain a positive experience, develop coping skills, cultivate safe and genuine friendships, and enjoy themselves without the short lived adrenalin hype of artificial substances. We aim to turn the tide of negativity, to replace stigma, guilt and shame surrounding mental health problems with positive attitudes and sound psychological/emotional well being." Fashion swap shop for Athenry

Thu, May 28, 2009

Beat the recession blues on Thursday June 4 at Athenry’s first clothes swap evening. The Raheen Woods hotel is the venue for the latest fashion craze to hit Galway. If you went to the recent clothes swap at the Radisson hotel you will know what you are missing, and if you missed it, then don’t let another chance pass you by. The idea is to bring along your unwanted (but perfect condition) clothes and exchange them for credit vouchers, which can then be exchanged for any of the items on offer. Everyone has clothes lingering in their wardrobes that will never be worn again, so why not use this opportunity for a clearout. If you don’t have clothes worth bringing you will also be able to buy vouchers on the night at a nominal rate. Clothing can be dropped off at the hotel in advance (from 3pm) or just turn up on the evening. Entrance is €10 and all proceeds will go to Gaelscoil Riada.
