Galway Racecourse should be used as a park-and-ride facility serving major employers in Parkmore Industrial Estate in order to alleviate current traffic gridlock, Dep Hildegarde Naughton said this week, even though IDA Ireland has indicated that this is not feasible as a short term solution.
The Fine Gael deputy called on Minister for Housing, Planning, and Local Government Simon Coveney to implement a park-and-ride at the racecourse to offset to the ongoing gridlock when the Minister visited the city at the weekend.

The company has said that it wishes him the best as he retires from Motorpark after over 16 years as General Manager at Higgins Motorpark, and this week, Mr Halloran spoke of his sadness at leaving after many exciting years.

Get ready for the Doggy Dash 5k in aid of MADRA — Next Sunday week, on October 9, the first ever MADRA 5k will take place at Cappagh Park, Knocknacarra. The event is open to everyone with the aim of encouraging social running in a fun, friendly setting, welcoming both seasoned runners as well as beginners and walkers. The 5k route which takes you around the Cappagh Park playing fields and through parts of scenic Barna Woods is flat and fast so is perfect for first timers and is also a great PB opportunity for the more seasoned runner.
The event was launched earlier this summer and has since received a lot of support from the public. Spokesperson for MADRA Katie-May North said that they are delighted with the response they have had so far and are especially grateful to Siobhan and Paul Lawless from The Foods of Athenry who are so kindly sponsoring the event.

This is the view of Minister for the OPW and flood relief and Galway East Independent Alliance TD, Seán Canney, who called on the Minister for Social Protection, Leo Varadkar to make changes to the Farm Assist scheme, during Minister Varadkar’s recent visit to Tuam.

A slam poetry competition will take place in Thoor Ballylee, the former home of WB Yeats on Saturday October 15, and performance poets are being invited to apply for one of 10 places at the event. This is the first competition of its kind to be held at the tower house.
This event will be MCd by Galway poets and former Cuirt Grand Slam winners Elaine Feeney and Sarah Clancy who, jealous of the attention being given to the other poets, may decide to perform some of their own poems in the interval.
