Foundation is launching the fourth annual Light It Up Gold campaign with a candlelit walk in Galway city centre on Sunday September 4.
The launch will include face-painting and children's entertainment prior to walking to the Spanish Arch, led by Mayor Noel Larkin. After the walk, participants will gather for a short candlelit ceremony with performances from Athenry Youth Choir and Youth Ballet West. As part of the international campaign, buildings across the world will be cast gold to shine a light on the bravery of children dealing with cancer.

The collection of portraits formed the basis for a black and white photo-book, Rising Beyond - celebrating a Century of Galway People which was released earlier this year on the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising. The photo exhibition was previously on display at the city museum for a number of months.

Landlords in Galway are at the centre of a raging housing crisis, which has seen the city's housing market thrown into disarray.
In the last fortnight, a final year midwifery student in GMIT claimed she had a deposit of €2,400 accepted by a landlord, only to find the locks had been changed, and all her possessions had been locked inside the rented house. Another student said he had received an application form which requested his criminal history (if any), his PPS number, his bank and credit history, and asked for the reason why he wanted to rent the house at the given address.

The University of Notre Dame’s new Education Centre at Kylemore Abbey in Conemara will be officially opened this week. More than 100 senior academics and management from Indiana will fly into Ireland to attend the event.
The partnership allows the University of Notre Dame to execute a wide range of academic programmes while offering residential facilities at the abbey. An array of academic disciplines will be taught, combining the scholarly rigour of Notre Dame with the rich tradition of Benedictine spirituality.
