Quay’s Bar of Quay Street Galway received the Sky bar award for Best City bar in Ireland. The award was accepted by Eddie Fitzgerald of the Fitzgerald Group and Seamus McGettigan, manager of Quay’s Bar - one of Galway’s historical pubs that has won various awards over the years.
The Quays was bought by Louis Fitzgerald in 1991, who renovated the premises, retaining the old bar and opening a new music hall upstairs which has been running ever since. It is the stage for Glor Tire which is filmed by Irish station TG4.

Heritage week continues in Galway with a programme of events organised by the Galway Civic Trust.
Today (Thursday) sees a walking tour of Galway’s medieval treasures and a guided tour of the National Computing and Communications Museum in Dangan. Other events include a tour of the Renmore Military Barracks, as well as a talk and demonstration on medieval material culture at the old city walls in the Eyre Square Shopping Centre on Friday at 1pm.
