At Monday’s city council meeting, Independent Galway City West councillor Catherine Connolly put forward a motion, asking city manager Brendan McGrath not to take any further steps to complete the ‘expressions of interest’ process for the Knocknacarra Community Centre.

A fundraiser being held both in the city and in Tuam this month will raise funds for a local suicide and self-harm crisis centre which has reached out to more than 70 people since it opened five months ago.
The Darkness into Light event begins at 4.15am on Saturday May 10 when thousands of people will walk or run a 5km route while dawn is breaking for Pieta House at Bishop Street, Tuam.

Funded principally by Galway City Council, this project is now in its 15th year, during which time the Galway Film Centre has built up an impressive track record of giving people from a wide range of backgrounds access to the art-form of documentary making. The project aims to facilitate community groups to take an active part in the filmmaking process, to develop and create a short documentary in order to tell their own story.
