A 33-year-old woman who during a binge of “tablets and alcohol” attempted to commit a burglary at a family home while an elderly lady slept upstairs has been sentenced to nine months in jail with the last four months suspended with conditions.
Tara Gardiner with an address at 12 Beechwood Park, Ballybane, appeared at Galway District Court on Monday where she pleaded guilty to burglary at a house in Meadow Grove, Ballybane, on October 14, 2012

Fine Gael Galway West TD Brian Walsh has welcomed the provision of €2.25 in capital funding that will enable the conception and development of youth cafes that will facilitate recreational activities for young people both within and outside the Galway region. Applications for the grant have already been submitted by youth groups as well as other local organisations and are being assessed for consideration. Deputy Walsh is extending an invitation to all local associations of this variety to apply for the funding.

In the dark days of the fifties, sixties and seventies, when hope was in short supply in Ireland, it was even less in abundance for those who were placed there often through no fault of their own, abandoned by the State to become the sexual and physical playthings of a brutish regime.
