GPA Solutions is delivering its successful QQI Level 5 and 6 payroll awards this spring. These awards will provide learners with a working knowledge of the Irish payroll system and a valuable qualification to add to their CV.
Level 5 awards will provide learners with a thorough knowledge of basic PAYE computations to include the cumulative, week one, and emergency tax basis. Learners will learn and understand PRSI and USC computations, how to deal with starters and leavers, file Revenue forms, and year end procedures. This course will run over four days, one day a week, commencing in March in Galway.

In 1812, there were 468 cabins or houses, all thatched, in The Claddagh. These were occupied by 50 families, totalling 1,050 males and 1,286 females. That was a lot of people and houses in a relatively small geographical area and could be described as a “clachan”, a large irregular group of houses clustered closely together. All of these houses were single storey buildings, only the two-storeyed Aran View House and the early 19th century coastguard houses were higher.

One of the challenges facing a garden designer is how to make a garden look good all year round. The choice of plants for spring, summer and even autumn is endless, but when it comes to the colder months of the year you need to rely heavily on shrubs and ornamental grasses that will add colour and structure even in winter. Fortunately, there are loads of these to choose from and I relish the challenge of producing planting plans to suit different locations and soil types – always remembering that they need to look good and perform reliably. When winter flowers are needed, one of my favourite plants to design with is the hellebore or Lenten Rose.
