Mid term revision maths course

The school year is back in full swing and it is time to get serious about your exams. Students preparing for exams should think carefully about the benefits of a structured revision course.

The Halloween mid-term break is an excellent time to start getting your exam preparation off to a great start. Starting with algebra, there will be a series of focused courses for both senior and junior cycle maths students. The courses are targeted for higher level students, and are suitable for transition year up to Leaving Cert students and third year higher level students only. The courses will take place in NUIG on Saturday November 4 and Sunday November 5 and will run for three hours from 10am to 1pm.

Frank Murphy, manager of FCL Galway, explains that one of the keys to success in maths is having a solid fluency in the foundational maths skills that are taught in primary school. Too often, students do not get sufficient practice at the different basic skills, and so lack the confidence needed to tackle the more complex ideas that appear in secondary school mathematics and beyond. Often students lack the necessary fluency and feel that they are “no good at maths”.
