Galway City Community Training Centre provides early school leavers with the skills, knowledge, and self-confidence to gain nationally recognised qualifications and progress to employment, further training, and education.
The training centre, which is based in the Liosbán Industrial Estate, provides a two-year training course for early school leavers at Level 3 on the National Qualifications Framework. Its programmes focus on mechanics, catering, information technology, and horticulture. The programmes include a literacy intervention and a number of support measures. Previous learners gained employment in restaurants, coffee shops, kitchens, hotels, takeaways, retail stores, garages, market gardens, garden centres, and as landscapers, as well as progressing to apprenticeships.

Music Generation Galway City is a new music education service for the City of the Tribes. As part of the national Music Generation network, its aim is to offer all children and young people a chance to participate in music-making. Like Barack Obama’s “leave no child behind" message, Music Generation Galway City is there to help children, regardless of background or means, to enjoy music in their life.
As part of Music Generation Galway City’s Spreagaigí programme, an exciting new after-school music hub is starting in September 2020 in Galway Community College, Wellpark Road. Parents and young people are now invited to register for weekly lessons. The hub will be open on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, starting September 15 and 17. Lessons will be given in small groups (maximum three) so making friends and having fun will be as much a part of the experience as learning a new musical instrument or skill.
