What if I said to live life without illness isn’t a quirk of faith or a chance, something which ‘good luck’ has fated us with, what if it were instead a conscious choice? This is something which I strongly believe; that all illness be it physical, mental or emotional is in a way some form of resistance to life and to what life wants or expects from me.

These are probably the best known and best worn set of steps in Galway. They were built in the 1855 - 59 period while the present Augustinian Church was being constructed. The site was slightly higher than the road level so the steps were required at the front and the back of the church. The Augustinian connection with the city goes much further back than that.

While it would be foolish to take the ever fitful Irish weather for granted, it's important to get out and make the most of the balmy conditions while we have them. There are few better places in Ireland to do so than Galway city and its surrounding countryside. Why go on holiday when there is so much on offer in your own backyard? Even if the weather does betray us yet again, there are plenty of indoor activities to get stuck into too.

A SciFest fair consists of a competition and exhibition of projects, a prize-giving ceremony, and also includes a selection of science talks, and science demonstrations in the college laboratories.
