Mr Whippy Soundsystem's Summer Market Block Party returns to the Galway market on Sunday 22nd July 2012, from mid-day to sun-set, sunshine funtime on the original pop-up outdoor dancefloor! Ever since Project 06, Mr Whippy Soundsystem's annual free afternoon at St Nicholas's market on a Sunday in July has become a much-loved regular 'fringe' event during Galway's festival season. Joining the soundsystem on the day will be Dave Barry (The Nitty Gritty - Massimos Bar), Ben O’Faoláin (Club Áras na nGael) and Dr Herringbone Dread. Followed by a late night after-party at Massimo's (also free!).

Gretchen Peters to play Kelly’s

GRETCHEN PETERS, the Nashville based singer-songwriter plays Kelly’s, Bridge Street, on Monday July 23 at 8pm as part of the Galway Arts Festival.

On the night she will perform songs from her most recent album, Hello Cruel World, (“An affecting, beautifully measured, grown-up affair,” said Q) as well as songs from across her 25 year career.

A Night For Celia @ Róisín Dubh

The event is a charity concert with proceeds going towards the Galway Famine Ship Memorial and the Celia Griffin Children’s Park at Grattan Road beach.

THE ATHENRY Music School Guitar Orchestra will perform a lunchtime concert in the Augustinian Church as part of the Galway Fringe Festival.

The concert takes place on Friday July 27 at 1.15pm. The concert will showcase talent in the local community through a repertoire composed specifically for the ensemble by Kevin Brett and Ross O’Farrell, the directors of Athenry Music School, a not-for-profit organisation established to nurture and develop musical talent.
