A Night For Celia @ Róisín Dubh

TUAM POET and singer-songwriter Seamus Ruttledge, and friends, will play the A Night For Celia concert, upstairs in the Róisín Dubh on Thursday July 26 at 9pm.

The event is a charity concert with proceeds going towards the Galway Famine Ship Memorial and the Celia Griffin Children’s Park at Grattan Road beach.

In recognition of this, Bohermore folk singer-songwriter Don Stiffe, a special guest on the night, will perform ‘Song for Celia’, dedicated to the memory of Celia Griffin, a victim of The Great Famine, who perished on the streets of Galway in 1847.

The show will be opened by writer and journalist Charlie Adley, who will also do a reading.

Seamus Ruttledge and guests will provide the music. Ruttledge has released two critically acclaimed albums - Songs To Have With Your Tea and New Boots, New Shoes. He is an assured entertainer with a savage yet compassionate wit, who can hold an audience in thrall.

Seamus will be joined by Michel Durham, leader of the Galway Gospel choir, and Sass and Niamh who perform interpretations of classic songs by Guy Clarke, Mary Gauthier, and the Magnetic Fields.

Photographer and artist Jane Talbot will present a slideshow from a recent Croagh Patrick expedition.

Tickets are €7 and available online at www.roisindubh.net, from the Ticket Desk at OMG, Shop Street (formerly Zhivago ), and The Róisín Dubh.
