Western Management Centre is once again running the award in project management course which is validated by QQI (Quality and Qualifications Ireland). The course is designed to provide an end to end overview of the project management process from the initiation of a project to closing. It will provide the tools and frameworks to help an individual navigate through each phase of a project and identify issues that have the potential to jeopardise the project’s objectives and completion.
The course will take place one evening a week from September to November in the Western Management Training Centre in Dangan, Galway. Participants will also be required to submit written assessments both during and at the end of the course in order to achieve certification.

The Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Heather Humphreys, TD, last week turned the first sod on the site of the new extension to GMIT’s Innovation Hub (iHub) at the GMIT Galway campus.
This extension will double the size of the Innovation Hub to about 2,400 m2, providing space for an additional three dedicated MedTech R&D units; 17 incubation units for start-ups in the Software, Digital Tech, Connected Health sectors; a Co-Working space; an Events Space; Social Hubs; and, breakout meeting and networking areas. The extension will also provide a dedicated Entrepreneurship Hub where GMIT researchers, staff, students and Industry can work collaboratively on the creation and development of innovative ideas in support of an Open Innovation Strategy.

Research conducted by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) reveals that two in five adults living in Connacht would consider buying an electric vehicle (EV). The research, which surveyed 1,000 people, found that the lower running costs of driving an EV was the primary reason for considering to purchase (41%), second only to helping the environment (51%).

Engineering students from NUI Galway have won first place for technical innovation at Shell Eco-marathon Europe, the continent’s premier competition for ultra-efficient vehicles.
The Galway team won the award for its Geec, an energy-efficient car capable of travelling more than 350km on one unit, or kilowatt-hour (kWh), of electricity - the equivalent of driving from Galway to Dublin for less than 15 cents’ worth of electricity or 10,000 miles per gallon of diesel.

In their Budget 2019 submission titled “Retail: Sustaining and Growing an Economy”, Retail Excellence are also seeking a general cut in consumption taxes, a reduction in the cost of doing business, increased funding to get retailers online, increased infrastructural investment, Garda resources, town renewal funding, investment in the Home Renewal Scheme, introduction of measures to increase our competitiveness and improved access to finance.
