Those who are lucky enough to have a garden know it is a little sanctuary from the stresses and strains of the outside world. Keeping our gardens neat during the autumn and winter months means we can enjoy them to the fullest when spring and summer arrive once again. But in order to give our gardens the best TLC treatment during these harsher months the best in garden machinery must be used.

At JW Tools customers can find a range of machines including ride-on lawnmowers, walk-behind lawnmowers, chainsaws, leaf blowers, strimmers, brushcutters, hedge trimmers, shredders, and scarifiers to help them achieve the perfect garden. The business also stocks accessories for use with its machinery as well as spare parts for all the brands it sells, and can source parts for almost any brand.

Located in the Oranmore Business Park, the family run business was established more than 35 years ago by Joe Whelan. The business started out as a repair shop for power tools and gradually branched into garden machinery repairs. Joe says; "We started out back in the eighties on the Tuam Road when I saw an opening in the market for the repair of power tools in Galway. The business then expanded to meet customer demand by providing a repairs service for garden machinery and eventually we took on a range of new garden machinery for sale and we traded for many years in the Liosbán Industrial Estate. In 2001 the decision was made to relocate to Oranmore to a new premises that could facilitate the business's expanding range as well as being able to provide our customers with ample parking facilities."

The decision all those years ago to move into garden machinery has benefited JW Tools and helped offset some of the negative impact of the recession which all businesses experienced during those lean times. As Joe reveals; "Even during a recession, the grass kept growing, so people needed lawnmowers. That in combination with our repairs side of the business kept the business going during those tough times."

Changing times

Garden machinery has come a long way over the past 35 years and Joe says the industry is forever changing and JW Tools endeavours to keep up to date with the latest in garden machinery. Joe says; "There has been a vast improvement in the quality and sophistication of machinery since JW Tools was established. However regular maintenance is still necessary on these new models, and staff at JW tools believe that after sales service and spare parts availability are very important aspects of the business. Valdas has been with JW Tools for more than 10 years and is the back-bone of the service department. He has a wealth of experience in the repair of all types of garden machinery and can provide expert advice to customers on all their garden machinery queries."

Joe’s daughter Deirdre highlights the increased popularity of new and innovative products on the market. She introduced the Husqvarna Automower range of robotic lawnmowers and a selection of lithium-ion battery-powered garden machines to the store three years ago, and sales of robotic mowers have increased year on year as people realise they are not gimmicks and are excellent pieces of equipment that really work. “Our customers are delighted that their weekends and evenings have been freed up from the chore of keeping the grass cut and have even gone as far as to name their automowers.

"In Galway, where it rains a lot, it can be difficult to get out and cut the grass. These little treasures mow the lawn every day, rain or shine, resulting in a manicured lawn that is in fantastic condition. Milder winters over the past few years means the grass continues to grow later into the season and the Husqvarna Automower can stay out on the lawn keeping it looking neat."

Keep the garden tidy in autumn

As autumn nestles in nicely to our surroundings, the leaves will start to change colour and provide a glorious backdrop to the garden. But as they fall from their branches it is important to clear them off the lawn to keep the grass in top condition. JW Tools has a special offer on Tanaka leaf blowers with €30 off selected models in store. September is also an ideal month for hedge trimming so Tanaka hedge trimmers are also on offer in store with €60 off selected models. Garden shredders and chainsaws are all in stock to make the garden tidy up a quick and easy task.

Joe says the business takes great pride in providing top quality products and service to its customers. "We only sell equipment that is of a high quality and we will do our utmost to remedy any problem that a customer may have. Our garden machinery is manufactured by well-known brands such as Husqvarna, Maruyama, Tanaka, John Deere, Oleomac, Stiga, Weibang, and many more. With more than 35 years of experience in the business we are confident that we can provide quality-made products and excellent advice and back-up service to all our customers.

"Whether you are a professional landscaper or an avid home gardener, we are always on hand to offer advice and to suggest the best tools and garden products to suit a customer's gardening and maintenance needs."

JW Tools thanks its customers for all their support over the years and looks forward to seeing them in the future.
