Original Script Night at Loughrea Library

Performances of new plays by Dympna D’Arcy, Veronica Newell, Miceál Kearney, and JP Murphy

THE SEAMUS O’Kelly Players, 'An Original Script Night', featuring four new comedy plays written by members of the group, will take place in the Loughrea Library on Friday January 19 at 7.30pm.

Dympna D’Arcy’s Taking the P*ss depicts what the author calls "your average wedding - pregnancy, poisoning and portaloos - and a wedding's ability to amplify melancholy for those we’ve lost". Veronica Newell’s Room 7 is set in a retirement home, where two elderly sisters plot escape and annoy each other as only siblings can.

Miceál Kearney’s Winning Stink takes place within a surreal game show where there could be a bit more at stake for the contestants than they might have originally thought. JP Murphy’s A Chip Off The Old Block starts with a village preparing for a visit from a US millionaire, and ends with ancestral stories built up and torn down, folk songs butchered, and family feuds reignited.

Tickets are €5 on the door. For more information call 083 - 8633796.
