The Playboy Of The Western World – The Musical

Hit show returns to the Town Hall Theatre

A RAUCOUS and rollicking musical production of JM Synge's The Playboy Of The Western World, which raised the roof of the Town Hall Theatre when it ran there last November, returns this month for three performances.

Adapted by Diarmuid de Faoite and Justin McCarthy, and set in a radio studio in 1959 during a live broadcast, this reworking boasts a full band, a foley artist, and vintage-style sound effects including half doors, jugs of water, and a manual wind-up wind machine. The show's original run enjoyed critical acclaim with the Galway Advertiser's Charlie McBride declaring: “Justin McCarthy takes the familiar Synge speeches and re-mints them as toetapping sing-along compelling brilliant songs.”

The all-Galway cast includes Eilis McCarthy, Eoghan Burke (Fia Rua ), Diarmuid de Faoite, Rod Goodall, Helen Gregg, Fred McCloskey, Seamus Hughes, Aine Ní Droighnean, Muireann Ní Reaghaillaigh, and Jane Talbot. The musicians include Justin McCarthy, Dave Curtis, James Richardson, Ned O’Grady, and John Conneely.

The Playboy runs at the Town Hall Theatre from Tuesday October 10 to Tuesday 12. Tickets are available via 091 - 569777 or
