Ballymoe boy features in fundraising calendar for children’s hospital

A County Galway child is one of 12 Irish toddlers and babies featuring in the “Smiles For Crumlin” 2012 calendar which is on sale now.

Jamie O’Donovan aged three years from Ballymoe took part in the fundraising initiative by Cow & Gate to raise some smiles and much-needed funds for the redevelopment of the bone marrow transplant unit at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin. The Dublin facility cares for Ireland’s youngest cancer patients and their families.

So far more than €28,000 has been raised though a €25,000 Cow & Gate donation and more than €13,000 in public donations.

All funds from the sale of the calendar, which costs €9.99, will also go to this cause. It can be bought online at smilesforcrumlin.ie or at participating SuperValu stores nationwide as well as at the hospital’s gift shop.

Jaime O’Shea, the marketing director of Cow & Gate, says the calendar makes an ideal Christmas gift.

“All money from the sale of the calendar goes directly to the redevelopment of the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin. So, we are encouraging people to help us to sell calendars this year and so that we can help this fantastic hospital continue to care for Ireland’s youngest cancer patients and their families.”

Edel O’Malley, the director of development at the hospital’s medical and research foundation - the principal fundraising body for the centre - says hopefully the calendar will raise valuable funds for the hospital.

“On behalf of everyone here I’d like to thank all of the families around the country that have lent us their support and a particular thank you to Cow & Gate for bringing this project to life.”
