Galway's newly crowned champions

Galway's Diarmuid Mulkerrins (Moycullen ) and Cian ÓConghaile (Michael Breathnachs ) (above ) are the newly crowned All-Ireland Intermediate Handball Champions.

After a nail-biting battle of two hours and 20 minutes, the Galway duo eventually saw off their Cork opponents by 21-12; 19-21; 11-3. In doing so they became only the second Galway pairing to win the intermediate 40x20 doubles, following in the footsteps of Williamstown's brothers, Pat and Ollie Conway who won in 2015.

The Galway pair are now elevated to senior with Ó Conghaile becoming the first Breathnach's player to reach senior status. Mulkerrins is the third from Moycullen, following in the footsteps of his older brother Martin, and top ace player from the eighties, Eamon Conneely.

The newly crowned champions are no strangers to the winners' enclosure, having previously teamed up to win U21 doubles in both 40x20 and 60x30.

Next up for the successful duo is the big-alley 60x30 championship later in the summer.
