Comórtas Peile Scoileanna Gaeltachta returns after Covid absence

The hailstones and freezing wind failed to dampen the competitors' spirits at the annual Comórtas Peile Scoileanna Gaeltachta on Thursday at Coláiste Muire, Tuar Mhic Éadaigh.

This competition, in honour of the memory of past pupil Edmund Heneghan, Killawalla, whose family presented the trophies to the winning teams, is a celebration of the passion and spirit of Irish culture and showcases respect for the Irish language that inspires all who choose to attend Irish language schools.

Teams from secondary schools in Gaeltacht areas of Galway and Mayo, and as far afield as Ráth Chairn in Co Meath competed at this year's event, including past pupil Órla NíCheallaigh, who was in charge of the representatives from Rath Chairn.

With the last Comórtas having taken place in 2019, competitors enjoyed the return of students from Spiddal, Carna, Ros Muc, Indreabhán, An Cheathrú Rua and Mayo Ros Dumhach for this annual event.
