Thu, Sep 27, 2012

His GAA origins may be etched in Offaly soil, but Operation Transformation winner, and Knocknacarra resident Ronan Scully has declared himself an adopted son of the Galway contingent. “I played football with Offaly where I won an All-Ireland but I’m living in Galway and I’m a huge supporter. I was at the last game and I’ll be going Sunday too. I got Galway kits for my daughters so we’re ready to go.” Scully was vocal about his faith in the Galway quest to claim temporary ownership rights of the Liam McCarthy Cup. Scully commended Anthony Cunningham for the way that he has transcended the hurling landscape in Galway. He accredited the manager with ‘galvanising’ and ‘consolidating’ the Galway outfit. Mr Scully spoke with unwavering assurance when citing these two elements as being the cause for revolutionising the competitive edge in the Galway side.

Lisa Regan - Sister of centre back Tony Og Regan, member of Galway Hurler Supporters’ Club, and secretary of local Rahoon hurling club.

Thu, Sep 27, 2012

Lisa Regan predicts that if Galway prosper on Sunday and eclipse that 23 year that a dearh of positivity will radiate through the county. “If Galway won, it would put hurling back on the map and make it cool again. I’ve seen a newfound interest in our own club already. We’ve had eight to 10 new kids requesting to join so hopefully a revival will follow. I love all sports in general but in a county like Galway, particularly in the city, other sports often get more attention but if we won on Sunday I think things would change.”

But the Supermac's label takes on a different form on the Galway jersey. Intriguing key battles to watch on Sunday

Thu, Sep 27, 2012

When Kilkenny got on a run in the third quarter the last day, they were driven on by the brilliance of Brian Hogan and Tommy Walsh. Hogan plucked two or three in a row out of the air and you almost feel the intake of breath and anxiety in the Galway crowd in the Hogan Stand.
