Sean Breathnach of Galway City Harriers took pride of place at the National Senior Indoor Championships at the Athlone IT arena last weekend.
Winning the national shot putt title yet again, Breathnach also broke the national indoor record. He threw a massive 18.16 metres to break the 35-years-old national Indoor record of 18.03, and also threw 18.13 and 17.67 in a superb series of throws. Sean’s brother Micheal took bronze in the shot, making it a great day for the Breathnach family.

Galway WFC produced a four-goal rout over Cork City on Saturday night in Eamonn Deacy Park, putting then three points clear at the top of the Continental Tyres Women’s National League.
The emphatic victory began with the first goal from Chloe Moloney on 22 minutes when she rose highest to head home a Lynsey McKey corner. On 36 minutes referee Thomas Oates pointed to the spot for a handball and Therese Hartley made no mistake with the penalty to make it 2-0.
