Oranmore Maree make history with Galway's first intermediate hurling title

In the history of the All Ireland Club Intermediate Hurling Championship, six different clubs from Galway had been defeated in finals since its inception in 2004. Finally that has changed, and Galway can toast Oranmore-Maree who produced a wonderful second-half display to overcome Munster champions Charleville and win by 2-18 to 1-5.

St Thomas’ are renowned for the quality of their stickwork and ability able to carve open teams when in full flow, but it was ultimately their defensive resolve and workrate that earned them victory in a dramatic All-Ireland club semi-final against Ruairí Óg Cushendall in Parnell Park on Saturday.
David Sherry was the hero of their one-point win - 0-18 to 2-11 - with a superb winning score from the left corner deep into stoppage time, but it was the collective spirit of St Thomas’ that earned them a place in their second All-Ireland final, with full back Cathal Burke’s goal-line intervention denying the Ulster champions at the death.

NUIG Athletics Club enjoyed a successful Irish University Indoor Championships with a substantial medal haul, including three golds, two silvers and two bronze medals.
Gold came via the talented NUIG women's relay team in Athlone IT Arena on Friday when they raced home in the 4x200m event in a time of 101.69 seconds, an NUIG Record. The squad comprised Sarah Quinn, Ciara Barry, Ellie O'Toole and Nicole Walsh. International athlete Damien Landers won the 3000m with a great final lap, and Eoghan Rodgers secured victory in the weight for distance throw to claim the third gold of the day for NUIG.

Athenry had a 4-0 win over Merlin Woods Sports Club on Saturday with goals from Cathal Fahy (5), Gary Forde (pen 21), Stephen Cunningham (64) and Cole Connolly (89), while Mervue took over the top spot again on Sunday with a 7-1 win over Galway Bohemians at Miller's Lane with goals from Tommy Walsh, Barry Moran, Enda Curran (2), Jason Molloy, Peter Walsh (2) and Andrew Connolly.

Manager Tim Rabbitte has made three changes to the team that overcame Cork by 1-8 to 0-5 last weekend with the Dunmore McHales Hannon sisters making their starts.
