Corinthians slip to leaders

Corinthians take a break from Ulster Bank League action this weekend after suffering a 28-6 loss to division 1A leaders Nenagh Ormond last weekend.

The Galway city side had travelled to Nenagh with high hopes after their fine win against Malone, but the Co Tipperary outfit, with four wins under their belts, were up to the task. Outhalf Clayton Stewart slotted their first penalty after 10 minutes before Corinthians replied with a fine penalty from outhalf Jack Feeney. With the game keenly poised, an excellent break by hooker Conor Muldoon was finished by scrumhalf Peter O'Leary, and Stewart added the extras.

Galway fighters shine

The Galway Black Dragon Kickboxing Club celebrates more success on the international stage. Six fighters, who were part of a 45 strong Irish team, competed at the Unified World Championships in Tuscany in Italy. The Unified World Championships is the world's largest martial arts tournament, attracting thousands of competitors each year from 120 countries. The Galway fighters took a total of five gold, four silver and five bronze medals after fighting the best kickboxers from around the globe.

Medals for masters

Galway athletes were in the medals at the 29th annual British & Irish Masters International Cross Country in Glasgow on Saturday.

Competing against masters from England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland in three races were Martin Kearney, Martin McEvilly and Christine Kennedy of GCH, all competing for Ireland, Kearney and Kennedy both came home with team gold in their respective categories (O60), and McEvilly claimed a silver team medal at O65 level. Kennedy also picked up an individual silver medal at O60 in the ladies' masters race
