Leading department store Anthony Ryan’s will continue its sponsorship of the Best Dressed Lady competition this Lady’s Day, Thursday July 31, at the Galway Races.

There was further positive pre-season tidings for Connacht as news filtered through that powerful Samoan centre Niva Ta’auso will join the western province.

Ta’auso, who has made 22 appearances in the Super 14 competition, won’t be available for Connacht until October when the current campaign in New Zealand concludes. The 28-year-old is playing there for Counties Manukau, and Connacht manager Tim Allnut believes that Ta’auso will add a fresh dimension to the squad in the autumn. "Niva is a very powerful strong running centre. He's a linebreaker and a good distributor of the ball and we feel he'll improve our play in a crucial area."

There are no more second chances for the 18 sides that remain in contention for the Frank Fox Cup. In total, seven senior ties are down for decision including the eagerly awaited clash of Caltra and Moycullen, while county champions Killererin take on Cortoon Shamrocks in the weekend's other stand-out tie.

This month 10 years ago in the All-Ireland quarter-final at Croke Park Waterford gave Galway a good trimming in Cyril Farrell’s last day in the managerial hot-seat. The Déise men won handily on a score-line of 1-20 to 1-10 with Tony Browne in superb form, hitting 0-7 from midfield.

Waterford had been beaten in the Munster final by Clare that year but they bounced back from that bitter defeat to give a much improved display in seeing off the Tribesmen.
