One of the fastest growing dance schools in the west of Ireland is expanding and on the lookout for new staff. The Antoinette Casserly School of Dance was established in 2004 and offers classes in ballet (RAD and repertoire) and modern/jazz.

Seven horses were seized in early morning raids in Ballybane this week. The horses were removed from a house in the area which had been boarded up for a considerable period.
The raid follows representations by Independent city councillor Terry O’Flaherty to the Galway City Council, the Gardaí, and the GSPCA in relation to horses on public greens and where there were suspected cases of neglect and cruelty.

Deep-sea exploration and salvage experts Odyssey Marine Exploration has set a new world record after recovering silver bullion worth up to €26 million from the wreck of the SS Gairsoppa, a 412-foot steel-hulled British cargo ship that was torpedoed by a German U-boat during World War II and sunk off the Galway coast in February 1941.
Odyssey Marine Exploration has recovered more than 61 tons of silver bullion this month from a depth of nearly three miles at a location which is around 300 miles south-west of Galway. This latest recovery consists of 1,574 silver ingots or bars weighing about 1,100 ounces each or almost 1.8 million troy ounces in total, setting a new world record for the deepest and largest precious metal recovery from a shipwreck. Including the silver recovered in 2012, Odyssey has now retrieved 2,792 silver ingots from SS Gairsoppa or more than 99 per cent of the insured silver reported to be abroad when the ship sank.

You see, he never had much practice at it, despite he convincing himself that every summer of his childhood was spent on his back in the fields looking up at a sky with ne’er a cloud to be seen. With the sun-tanned shape of his Casio digital watch festooned like a white tattoo on his freckled arms, he told himself that this would be the best country in the world if the sun shone all the time. He says that he never noticed the wimmen of the country ‘til the sun shone and that he never appreciated the natural beauty of the countryside either. And when the rain and the winds came and they did come with earnest for the best part of a decade, he wished that the day would come when it would be warm in the morning and warm at night and that then all his ills would be cured.
