Ros a Mhíl port landed €12 million worth of seafood in 2017

The value of landings at Ros a Mhíl, County Galway’s leading fishing port, amounted to €12 million in 2017 and totalled a weight of 2,700 tonnes, according to the annual Business of Seafood report, published by Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) this week.

Oughterard student wins top science award

Roisin Molloy, from Oughterard, studying Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at UL, is a student on Johnson and Johnson’s WiSTEM2D (Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Manufacturing, and Design) programme and is one of a group of four students who won an award at an International Women’s Day Conference called Press for Progress held in UL last week.

New Blackstone LaunchPad Partnership to benefit NUI Galway staff, students and alumni

Entrepreneurs working with the Blackstone LaunchPad at NUI Galway will benefit from a new partnership between the Blackstone Charitable Foundation and TechStars, a global start-up accelerator and entrepreneurial network. The new effort was announced recently at SXSW EDU in Austin, Texas, USA. The announcement comes as Blackstone LaunchPad at NUI Galway celebrates its second year on campus at NUI Galway.

As one of just 20 Blackstone LaunchPad sites across the globe, Blackstone LaunchPad at NUI Galway boasts an entrepreneurial student community that has over 5,000 members. It has provided over 1,800 coaching sessions since launching and holds 3-4 events each week across campus supporting entrepreneurship. The programme helps students, staff and alumni explore entrepreneurship as a viable career path. The programme is funded in partnership between the Galway University Foundation and the Blackstone Charitable Foundation.
