The lease which will see the club pay €10,900 excluding VAT, to the Galway County and City councils, will run run from December 22 2019 to December 21 2020.

Councillors were also told the local authorities are currently engaged in the formulation of long-term proposals and that the flying club’s legal representative has been advised it is imperative their client take steps to secure an alternative location for its operation.

Reacting to the lease agreement, councillors welcomed the extension but called for the flying club to be involved in any master plan for the lands in Carnmore.

Cllr Jim Cuddy said he would not stand over any attempt to remove the flying club from this location with Cllr Mary Hoade stating the club need to be involved in the future of the airstrip.
