Galway roads to benefit from €32 million in Government funding

A total of €31.7 million has been allocated to the Galway city and county councils for repairs, maintenance, and improvements to the city and county road network.
The funding provides for ongoing maintenance, rehabilitative works, strategic improvements, and specific road changes to enhance road safety and quality. The grants are to supplement local authorities’ own resources and expenditure on regional and local roads.

The Galway City Council has thrown its support behind a proposed new pedestrian footbridge over the River Corrib, adjacent to the existing Salmon Weir Bridge and in front of the cathedral.
The project, if it secures planning permission, is estimated to cost in the region of €7.2 million with €3.5 million being provided by the EU European Regional Development Fund, if the council can secure permission to divert funds away from the Galway Library and Cultural Centre Development.

CÚRAM teams, in collaboration with industry partners, will be driving disruptive innovation on the key areas of medtech and connected health.
Professor Abhay Pandit, Scientific Director at CÚRAM in NUI Galway, said this funding of €4.8 million to CÚRAM research labs is a strong recognition of our pivotal role in the development of the next generation of medical devices and implants that target chronic illnesses.

Independent Councillor Terry O’Flaherty has called on Galway City Council to take action against a small number of householders who refuse to pay for domestic waste collections and dump their refuse instead in local alleyways and green spaces.
She issued the appeal in the wake of a major clean-up which took place in Ballybane on Saturday. The rubbish collected filled four skips.
