The Minister of State for Higher Education, Mary Mitchell O’Connor, TD, this week launched a research report on sexual consent among third level students carried out by the NUI Galway SMART Consent research team in collaboration with their partners at four colleges.

More than three thousands runners and walkers will take part in the Galway Clinic-sponsored Streets of Galway 8km which will take place in the city this coming Saturday August 11 at 7.00pm, starting from GTI on Fr Griffin Road.
Number pick up takes place at the Claddagh Hall over the following times — 2pm - 8pm on Friday August 10 and on Saturday from 9am - 4pm on Saturday 11th August 11 (race day).

The Streets of Galway 8K, sponsored by the Galway Clinic is almost upon us and is now one of the biggest events in the city.
3,200 runners are expected to turn up on Saturday week August 11 and the amount of spaces left is disappearing each day. Registration cut off is midday on Wednesday next August 8, unless capacity is reached earlier which is expected, so be warned.

We have a facility of huge potential for Galway City and County which is now lying idle. After many years of hard work it cost ca €3.3m to build and was ultimately completed in 1987. It was recently bought by the City/County Councils for €1.1m and is now termed by them as a site. We could never afford to put such a facility in place again and it would be an act of gross blindness and irresponsibility to let it disappear.

Cllr James Charity has warned motorists to exercise caution along areas of the N84 where the road has been raised, leaving a substantial slope which is particularly pronounced between Corrandulla Barracks and Clonboo.
“I have raised the issue with the local NDRO [National Roads Design Office] who have confirmed to me today these locations will be backfilled with Cl804 material so as to provide a safe road edge,” Cllr Charity said this week. “The NDRO has also prioritised the installation of crash barriers by TII at certain locations and I want to thank [senior engineer] Derek Pender there for giving this matter urgent attention.”

A significant number of mothers are unable to accurately identify the overweight/obesity status of their children, according to a recent study by an NUI Galway researcher.
The study, carried out by Dr Michelle Queally from the JE Cairnes School of Business and Economics at NUI Galway and colleagues from the Health Research Board funded project CHErIsH (Choosing Heathy Eating for Infant Health), was recently published in the International Journal of Behavioural Nutrition and Physical Activity.
