Funding for sensory garden in Lawrencetown

Lawrencetown Community Development Group is to receive €13,943 in CLÁR funding for a sensory garden. The award comes under Measure 3c of CLÁR, aimed at funding projects supporting community well-being.

A sensory garden is a self-contained garden area that is designed to allow people to enjoy a wide variety of sensory experiences they would not normally encounter. The funding has been welcomed by the Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney.

Nominate a Galwegian for Volunteer of the Year awards

Galway Volunteer Centre is calling on the public to “help recognise kindness in our communities” by nominating a volunteer for the national Volunteer Ireland Awards.

Nominations are open until October 4. According to Galway Volunteer centre manager, Donncha Foley, “Volunteers are the lifeblood of Irish society and we are proud to have a strong culture of volunteering in Galway. Without them, many of the things we take for granted simply wouldn’t exist. It’s hard to think of an area that doesn’t benefit from volunteers - from healthcare to sport, supporting vulnerable people or protecting our environment, but they are unsung heroes, and with these awards we want to shine a light on the amazing people who give so much to Galway without any expectation of thanks or glory.”
