USC review must undo real hardship says Nolan

Jobs boost as Avaya announces seventy five new posts

Galway received a significant employment boost on Tuesday when Avaya announced it is creating 75 new positions at their offices in Mervue Business Park. The jobs are part of the company’s new Customer Experience Centre, which opened with a special ribbon cutting ceremony by Michael Bayer, president of Avaya’s field operations in Europe, Middle East and Africa, and Barry O’Leary, CEO of the Industrial Development Authority Ireland.

Tuam superintendent to investigate Corrib ‘rape comments’ controversy

A Garda Superintendent from Tuam Garda Station is to play a pivotal role in an investigation into alledged comments made by three gardai during the arrest of Corrib oil protesters.

Two separate investigations were launched following allegations that a sergeant and two gardai had arrested two women near the Corrib gas pipeline in Mayo and then subsequently joked about threatening to rape and deport one of the women.

Three charged with burglary and car theft offences

Three Galway youths charged in connection with an alleged burglary and the unauthorised taking of a vehicle have been remanded in custody to appear again at Harristown District Court tomorrow.

The Galway District Court heard on Monday how 20-year-old Michael McDonagh of 19 Sliabh Rua, Ballybane, was arrested on April 3 at 6.54pm and later charged with the alledged offences of possessing certain articles, entering a building with intent to commit an offence, and unauthorised taking of an mpv at Regan’s Bar, Clonboo, on the same date.

Ballinasloe man’s fight to be allowed into State with medicinal cannabis continues

A Ballinasloe man with multiple sclerosis could face a further delay in getting permission to return home for family visits while in possession of his palliative medication, which includes cannabis, after a failed complaint bid to the European Ombudsman.

Noel McCullagh (35), who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2006, has made several attempts to gain permission to visit his parents, Michael and Ann, in Ballinasloe, however, the Irish authorities have warned that he would be arrested upon entry for possession of illegal drugs. Mr McCullagh, who has been living in the Netherlands for a number of years and works as a postman with the Royal Dutch Mail, has been prescribed palliative medical products containing cannabis.
