Further remand on bail for garda assault accused

A 33-year-old Turloughmore man accused of assaulting a garda during an altercation in the city last year has been further remanded on continuing bail.

David Slattery with an address at Coolarne, Turloughmore, Galway, appeared before Galway District Court last Monday charged with assault causing harm, disorderly conduct in a public place, intoxication in a public place, and threatening and abusive behaviour at Shop Street on October 17, 2011.

Metal duck art installation to bring a bit of quack to Global Village

A quirky art installation is sure to bring a smile to the face of visitors to Galway during the Volvo Ocean Race, as well as promoting a green message.

The European Recycling Platform, Ireland’s only pan-European scheme for recycling electronic and battery waste, is supporting the creation of the art piece by Donnacha Cahill and Moss Gaynor. Entitled ‘A Bit of Quack with ERP’, the installation consists of a six foot tall metal rubber duck ‘floating’ in a cast-iron bath atop a plinth of old washing machines.
