Young Galwegians are winners in Euro LEGO science challenge

Nine young Galwegians returned home on Monday June 11 victorious from the FIRST LEGO League Open European Championship in Mannheim, Germany. The group, all aged between nine and 14, won first place in the Gracious Professionalism Core Value Award, one of three top prizes in the international competition.

The mandate for the Reverse the Rent Caps group is to create awareness and garner support from all those affected by this change to the rent threshold which was introduced in Budget 2012 and lobby the Government to reverse this unfair austerity measure. As part of its campaign a rally is being held tonight at 8pm.

China’s largest state-run TV broadcaster, Xinhua, is to visit Galway next week to make programmes on tourism here, with a second programme in the pipeline focusing on trade and investment, that is according to Fine Gael Senator for Galway West, Fidelma Healy Eames.

Senator Healy Eames yesterday confirmed that Xinhua is to come to Galway and that the visit has come about as a result of the activity of the China-Ireland relations committee, of which Senator Healy Eames is chairperson.
