In the past few years, it has been all about brunch on the weekends, well now led by head chef Joe Flaherty, Sunday lunch has never tasted so good. “Having 20 years’ experience in the kitchen, I definitely have an understanding about what food people want to eat. The focus is on nonsense food with a mix of old school classic and bold innovative dishes,” Flaherty explained.

St Anne’s Orphanage

St Anne’s was situated in Lenaboy Castle on Taylor’s Hill. The old part of that building dates from the early 18th century. The house, which was situated on 63 acres of land, belonged to Colonel James O’Hara who was, in 1885, chairman of the town commissioners, and who founded a number of Galway industries. A lane led from the house to the gate of the estate which was beside where the Warwick Hotel is today.

On June 7, near the Belgian village of Messines, the Allied army won a substantial victory. It gave hope, which turned out to be tragically false, that perhaps this was the beginning of the end of the war. With the capture of the Messines ridge, the Allies were confident they could clear a path all the way down to Passchendaele, and capture the Belgian coast up the Dutch border.
